Photo backup is only part of recovery. Android can back up device data such as apps, settings, contacts, call history, and messages depending on the device and apps, so check the device-backup status separately.

Do this now

Open Android’s Google backup settings.

Confirm the intended Google Account is the backup account.

Review which device-data categories are currently backed up.

Keep photo/video backup as a separate check because it may use Google Photos.

Don’t do this

Do not assume Google Photos means the rest of the phone is backed up.
Do not switch backup accounts casually if it will split Mom or Dad’s data across accounts.
Do not buy more storage until the current backup configuration is understood.
