Never give an unexpected caller a verification code

Treat a verification code like a temporary key. If someone unexpectedly calls, texts, or messages and asks you to read a code back to them, stop. Do not share it.

Do this now

Agree on the rule now: verification codes are never read to an unexpected caller or message sender.
If a code arrives unexpectedly, do not click links in the message and do not reply with the code.
If the request claims to be from a bank or company, contact that organization using a number or app you already trust.
If a code was already shared, secure the affected account promptly and review its sign-in and recovery settings.
