Check where Mom or Dad’s contacts are actually saved

Do not assume every contact is backed up. Check whether contacts are stored in iCloud, a Google Account, another account, the device, or a SIM, and make sure the intended account is syncing them.

Do this now

Open the phone’s Contacts/account settings and identify which account stores the contacts Mom or Dad relies on.

On iPhone, review whether Contacts is enabled for iCloud or another intended account.

On Android, review Google Contacts sync and whether device/SIM contacts are being backed up to the intended Google Account.

Confirm a few important contacts appear from the account/cloud view rather than relying only on the phone’s local list.

Don’t do this

Do not assume photo backup also backs up contacts.
Do not switch the default contacts account until you understand where existing contacts are stored.
Do not delete duplicate-looking accounts or contacts during this check unless you know which copy is authoritative.
